TRAINING ARC 0.47.0
The islet is now THE STUDIO. A lot has changed since the last build (0.26.0). Here is the rundown.
The Studio
- Your home base is a run-down warehouse by the river. As you play, the crew turn it into a TV studio: a scrappy set first, then a real studio, then a whole studio lot. Your save loads straight in, with all its progress.
- Stations live in rooms: the Control Booth (the Remote, the Phone and the crew board), the Powerhouse, the Stage, Wardrobe, Master Ponzu's room, and upstairs the Post Office and the Trophy Room. The roof has the Bean Garden, and the dockside has Expeditions, fishing and the koi.
- Later in the season the lobby opens (a TV network HQ with a window into the control room) and through its glass doors, the backlot: the Training Yard, a boxing ring, and two trailers where the crew take their breaks.
- The studio has its own day and night, with skies over the roof, the dockside and the backlot, and sunlight through the windows.
- Fewer doors to run between: the Kitchen, the Crew Board and the Green Room folded into other places.
- The pause menu shows how everything is doing, and Go there walks you to the room that does it.
Looks
- Every stage and every fighter's moves are pixel art now, and zones 1 to 20 got a beauty pass.
- Six stages pop in 3D: a camera swing as you arrive and a lean when the boss walks in.
- Story scenes are directed like TV episodes, all the way to the finale.
- Boss fights turn their acts like a show, the final blow cuts to a comic close-up, and every fighter has their own knockout style.
Fights and fighters
- From zone 10 on, a boss's big move can't take most of your health in one hit.
- Rehearsal: every knockout at your newest zone makes the next try a little stronger.
- Rerun Remix: replaying a zone you've beaten throws in a twist.
- Stuck at a wall? The call sheet shows a way through, and ending the season there pays off now (Binge Watch).
- Every fighter was checked against their design: the Gearborn runs on heat only, the Funsuit plays like a pinball machine, the Moonveil works on cues, the Forecaster shovels snow, and the Mossborn's roots fight back.
- Jumps are fully animated, and new-move lessons pause the fight so you can practise.
The idle side
- Time away counts: your other fighters train in the Training Yard and your main fighter keeps farming while you're gone. Coming back is one card that adds it all up.
- The Prize Machine is a big game-show wheel in the lobby: prize relics and gear sets you can't get anywhere else.
- The Trophy Room pays a small bonus for every complete collection, and fishing shows what your Fish Log is worth.
- Relics have art, a collection shelf, and they never stop levelling.
Sound and quality of life
- New music for the first couple of hours, new menu and reward sounds, and every song plays at the right level.
- Fewer pop-ups: no more automated alerts, quieter room banners, shorter first visits.
- Four minigames are taking a break until after launch (Sorting Rush, Combo Challenge, Haggle and Live Read).
- The ratings card says what it means: when your ratings peak, renew the show at the Phone.
- Settings has Graphics and Audio tabs and works with the mouse.
- Plus subtitle size, more colour-blind help, Charge Ki as a toggle, and a lot of fixes.
